Our Awesome Story

IGLO
/ˈɪɡ.luː/

(Igloo) is an Eskimo accommodation unit constructed from blocks of frozen snow, in the form of a dome. On the outside, temperatures may be as low as -40°C but «heat insulation» feature of the snow lets the temperature on the inside range from -7 to 16°C when warmed by body and/or candle heat alone. In our opinion, igloos are the most economic and effective energy consuming allocation units built until today. The only material used is what can be found everywhere and which in fact is causes trouble for people; Snow… Iglo is a real solution derived from a problem. We chose the name iglo for our practice because it is the best and simplest example of the architectural principle we internalize and aim to reach at each of our projects.

IGLO was founded by Zafer KAROĞLU (B.A. YTU,1991) and Esen AKYAR (B.A. METU, 1992) in year 2001. Until today architectural design projects and consulting services were given to many clients coming from different sectors in Turkey and abroad. During over 19 years of practice, İGLO professionalized in projects which require high levels of design talent and analytic approach. Industrial building design is one of the areas we professionalized in.

In our industrial building projects, we first analyze all related aspects such as production processes, energy efficiency etc. and solve the functional scheme based on all these analyses. While doing this we find strong themes to emphasize the corporate identity and form the facade and interior layout based on this theme and pass beyond the Notion of «Architectural Project». With our experience on technical and logistic topics and knowledge of related regulations (industrial estate, fire, sustainability etc), we ease out clients’ lives at the planning, shop drawing, licensing and construction phases which follow the design phase. Our target is to go forward day after day by carrying out the transformative power of architecture. IGLO makes its clients go through an innovative design process by its functional and economical solutions.
